paradise institute by janet cardiff
"The Paradise Institute" blends the realms of sculpture, video, and sound with an understanding of cinematic conventions in order to immerse the viewer in a highly inventive and disorienting multimedia installation that stimulates consciousness and excites sensory experience. By means of an original 13-minute DVD projection with individual stereo headphones that creates a personalized "surround sound" for each member of the audience. "The Paradise Institute" explores the boundaries between reality and fiction. [ref]
another work i would love to experience, Cardiff's 'Words drawn in water'; a 33-minute multisensory audio walk artwork in which the artist’s layered sound effects merge to evoke a blending of history and memory. [ref]

there is also gary hill's Mediations [1979-86], a video piece in which a hand is pouring sand over a speaker and the sound of the voice talking is visualised by the sand patterns.
by Thomas McIntosh : Ondulation is a composition for water, sound and light. [2004]
this piece was shown at DEAF recently here in rotterdam. it's beautifull.
lastly, the work of alexandre joly, a swiss artist.
